09 Collin’s no running lights

I have been reading the forum for the last few days. Pulled lots of wiring diagrams but haven’t been able to solve this riddle.

We have a 2009 Collins Short bus based on the 3500 Express. It just lost the running, clearance and etc lights. The brake and reverse light work normally.

We have checked the fuses under the seat, dash and above the windshield. We haven’t been able to sort what wire they are using and or what fuse or relay run them.

The rear lights are LED and have been functional till now. Going to see if the harness under the bus has taken on damage. Any thoughts or insights?

Possible a ground wire got cut somewhere?

Possibly or Mother Nature did that for us. We haven’t converted this bus, we use it to haul kids for a daycare. Granted it is tempting to convert it when we upgrade.

I want to think that the running lights on the original van chassis might be controlled from the Body Control Module. (BCM)

Whether they tied the bus body lights into that system is a good question.

I could see where there would be no reason to run the brake lights or backup lights through the BCM for safety reasons.

Just a guess.

on my o4 chevy collins i had no lights on the rear when i got it.
traced everything back to the under hood fuse block and it was the ignition E fuse for whatever reason.

Your post was one that I was hoping it was like.

We haven’t been able to sort what color wire the running lights are on. So far we haven’t figured out why they aren’t working.

does your headlight switch have the automatic symbol on it? or daytime running lights?
i would pull the guage cluster and check the headlight switch first.

It does have the auto headlights. We have thought about it being the headlight switch. Before we replaced it we were hoping to have a strong suspicion that was the issue.

Joys of living remote. Takes awhile to get the parts.

do you have a multi meter?
pull the guage cluster and it pops right out with four tabs then you can test wiring for voltage in and out.
the ones i had that didnt work were clearance light and that was the grounds needed to be cleaned and new gaskets because the mounting screws are the grounds on mine.

Yep, that I do have. Do you have a pinout of the connector? Trying the google approach to see if can find one to validate the in and out for the lights.

Update - found the circuit wiring. Haven’t sorted where it splices in.

I traced back from a the front top clearance and found a T. This T goes back into the main harness as a brown wire marked clearance. This also goes to a relay as a signal wire to turn on step lights.

If I jumper the at the T the relay closes. Also the lights come on being jumped to a 12v source. Now the question is where does this get its 12v power. I have one diagram says the tag light.

Second Update - Tag light doesn’t work. Does when I jump the lights by the relay.

So know we know that the lights are broken to a fused link that is broken. Either a wire or a fuse is broken. Worst case it looks like I can add another link at the fuse panels at the top and at least restore the lights.

Another update.

So on our bus the clearance and running lights splice in to the harness that runs the park lamps. This goes through the relay 39 under the drivers seat.

This relay according to the up fitter manual gets the ground from Headlight>BCM>Relay. If I short pin 86 on the relay the lights come on and the relay closes.

So we either we have an issue with the switch or in the bcm. We have a new switch will put that in to verify that isn’t the issue. If it is the bcm it is either the wiring or the module itself.

So plan of attack is new switch and retest. If that fails we will isolate what fuse the lights are on and pull it. Jumper in at the upper fuse panel on a key on relay till we can get it in a shop to isolate or repair.

Thoughts if that would work? Thanks for all the suggestions and help
