12v / 24v, AC/DC, Low RPM 24v alternator?

24-volt supply-side system or 12 volts? (not on the solar charge side, 24v or 48v there seems a no-brainer) Also looking at adding an additional alternator- low rpm 24 v direct to the solar charge controller and while I am at it running shore power AC to DC converter to the solar charge controller (no need for AC smart charger when solar charger will do same?) Is my theory any good in practice? Has anyone tried it? Big bucks to save, less weight, more efficient and far less complicated?

I have wondered about the same thing and I would not know why that would not work.
If you go a dc generator with permanent magnets then the voltage is linear with the rpm. So you charge controller should be able to handle the highest voltage at max engine rpm..
If you go to normal 24volt alternator with regulator and add a buffer capacitor then you should be good to go( for a 12 volt system).

On the alternator part of my question:
This is what I have in mind, they have just announced a 24v version
If 24v doesn't make sense then a 12v version might be in my future
Seems like a good way to augment a solar system, most especially for winters in cloudy areas.
