Battery Anti Theft Device

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of any great 99 international 3800 bus battery anti theft devices (or something similar) that they have had success with? We had some vandalism with one of our buses and the batteries were stolen. I'm looking for something that can kind of lock the pull out tray so that it's impossible to get to the batteries even if the door is somehow ripped off.

I've attached a picture of what our battery compartment looks like. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

how about drilling a hole in the lever handle that keeps the tray from sliding out and a corresponding hole in the angle iron of the tray a put a pad lock in it?

I agree that preventing the theft of batteries is important.
However, if you are involved in an accident, it's not uncommon for emergency responders to disconnect the batterie(s) to prevent fires. Of course, my experience is mostly with cars with the battery situated in a more vulnerable location.
If you want to prevent theft, I'd use a padlock with a hasp. Then, if emergency responders need to disconnect the battery, they would have the tools to rip the hasp off with out much delay. The padlock would prevent the "opportunist" theft, which covers the vast majority.

Does it have the push lock on it? Just get a locking one.

a horn wired to a door switch on the battery box door is friggin hilarious leave some lumber laying around too so when they run they trip and fall. be sure to have a camera

BUT ALSO
Get one of those cans with the spring loaded "snake" that pops out when yo open the can. Close the door so that it holds the "snake" in. Horn goes off AND something jumps out at the would be thieves. 4x4's randomly about the area would be more likely to give some good video. A bright overhead LED area light could also be wired to the switch.
If you're really handy, a recording and loud speaker of some gun shots...

Yea something that pops out is going to be even better. Reminds me of my rubber snake with fishing line duct taped to the underside of my toilet. Wet snakes jumping out out really funny. They would run out with their pants down yet. Funny thing tho as guys were more scared than the girls were

2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, I fabricated a set of trays under the rear-entry deck and between the frames.

We secure the deck in the 'DOWN' position with a pair of inexpensive pad-locks.
We decided on this style pad-lock because they are 'keyed-alike' to the dead-bolts on the rear entry and the door to the 40' semi-trailer.
In the portrait with the deck raised (and supported by the deluxe hum-dinger tire-thumper), you might be able to see a couple big flat-worshers welded to a cross-rail.
These 'mate' to a corresponding pair welded to the vehicle frame.
