Lightbulb BMW i3 20kw batteries!?

Anyone fallen down this rabbit hole yet?

Looks like used/recon packs can be gotten for $3,500?

Yes they'd have to be reconfigured for <360V and have a 6000-8000W inverter/controller to run a pair of 15000 btu a/c's but they'd run all day with that kind of reserve.

Plus I could use the smallest diesel QD generator to keep the batteries topped off, instead of at least an 8k running constantly for a/c.

Am I missing something here?

Link send a link for your battery pack sourcing/pricing. Reconfiguring the pack for 24 volt or 48 volt operation is not a trivial matter but can be done. A custom BMS would need to be used or at the very least a compatible equalizer. I am running Fiat 500e battery pack in my bus which in my understanding uses the same sub packs / sales as the BMW i3

So it can be done?
How's the power, all you'd ever need?
What bms/equalizer did you go with?

I used a basic 6s dally BMS and a separate 5amp equalizer. Links to both below.

DALY BMS 8S 24V 150A LiFePO4 PCB Protection Board with Balance Leads Wires Battery Protection Module BMS for 18650 Battery Pack 24V https://a.co/d/4Xzt

Kigauru Capacitors 6S 7S 8S 5A 6A Active Equalizer Balancer/8s Equalizer Lifepo4 Lithium Lipo LTO Energy Transfer Board Fit Capacitor (Color : New 8S for All) https://a.co/d/0CU6jF9

The BMs gave me occasional issues and since all my charging and discharging was configurable via the solar controller I opted to remove the BMS and just keep the equalizer on all the time to keep cells balancesd.

Two years later no issues. I'm selling both of my 6s packs as I have no need for them with my revised electrical system.

Thanks!

I did a little more looking and think LG's powerwall system might be the way I will go. It looks like its plug and play and scalable with 10Kwh and 14kwh packs so if 14 isn't enough, I could easily add another 10 or 14 kwh and be good.
