Crank battery box and slide out tray replacement

Unfortunately my battery box and slide out tray need replacing. They are too rusted out. It’s a wonder I was able to drive it home without the batteries completely falling out onto the road. It’s a 1999 international 3800. Does anyone have any suggestions on either an exact replacement or an under frame storage box that they have used to house the batteries.

Also, I am going to eventually be installing 6 100Ah battle born batteries for my solar bank storage. Would it be feasible to have the 2 crank batteries and the 6 solar bank batteries stored in the same under frame storage box? Thanks in advance.

A good fab shop should be able to bend new metal to replace the rusted section.

Post a picture of your battery tray.

Here are just a couple of photos. As you can see the bottom of the battery box is completely rusted away.

LOL. Ouch. Time to get to welding.

As for the house bank (lithium), I'd carefully consider the potential detriments of housing them in an unconditioned space. I'm not sure what seasons you see or where you'll travel, but extreme temps in either direction could cause concern.

The battery tray looks good. The outer box itself needs rebuilt. A good fab shop can make that box. All you would need to do is remove it and take it in. They could replace the rusted metal or just build a new one. Remember time is money in those shops. The repair will take longer then making a new one. Ask for a price both ways. Then decide.

Another option.

The second route. Just bolt some cabinet tracks to the floor of the box. Mount the battery tray to the tracks. Then your done. BTW use a locking cabinet track.
