From what I recall, they made it illegal not to be connected to the grid and illegal to produce your own power.

Oh wow, I get it...

They don't want anyone to be able to sustain themselves and live "off the grid"

They made it a law that you will be a dependent, no matter what technology you may have learned

could be worse, I guess......

Arkansas law:
It is unlawful to walk one’s cow down Main Street after 1:00 PM on Sunday.

Arizona law:
When being attacked by a criminal or burglar, you may only protect yourself with the same weapon that the other person possesses.

Idaho law:
If a police officer approaches a vehicle and suspects that the occupants are engaging in sex, he must either honk, or flash his lights and wait for three minutes before approaching the car

Iowa law:
One-armed piano players must perform for free.

Its not illegal to produce your own power in Fl.
My ex had a $60,000 solar setup and got a monthly check from FPL.
It IS illegal in Florida to habitate anywhere without being hooked up to electricity and water. That's been a law forever and most local gov'ts have similar ordinances.

That must be awkward for people that collect rainwater for their water and live a traditional lifestyle like the Amish who don't use electricity.

Not too many Amish in Fl...
The Amish who live here ride bicycles and live in rv/trailer parks.

The real story on RV solar

Hi if you think you may be interested in solar, go to this blog, Bob has great info and advise and isn't trying to sell you anything.

I second what The Nebuchadnezzar said about handybob's knowledge of solar power.

I'm going to start with probably one 12v 103ah deep cycle marine battery that I found in Walmart. I might get a hf generator or just charge from shore until I get solar panels.

There's a build here on the site that I had bookmarked but lost when my PC crashed and I had to reinstall my OS.

I'm not sure who it was but it's been a few years back and it was well written in words that even I could understand & follow. I think it was a northern bus, maybe even Canadian. Name may have had Blue in the title or Angel (and not a blue angel).

Sorry I can't remember who exactly it was but will do my darnest to find it for you when I can find time.

Haha.. Blue Angel would be a great name for a bus. Especially if you could get the tail pipe to blast a blue flame out on command

We have lots of Amish around here. Their basic rule is no connection to the outside world. Each [congregation] decides its own rules. Some buggies have black triangles and kerosene lamps, some have orange triangles and battery-powered LED lights. Some even allow cell phones because they are wireless.

Regarding Amish and grid-tied laws, in some areas where not having AC is illegal, the Amish would put a telephone pole with a street light on it in the yard, but no wires to the barn or house. The property had power, but their homes had no connections to outsiders.

This is similar to some having telephones in booths by the roadway, but not in their homes or barns.

There was a recent dilemma locally where Amish farmers were seeking to sell milk to a commercial dairy cooperative, but the milk had to be refrigerated or otherwise treated with electrically powered equipment. They decided to allow the co-op to build a modern collection center on land between two farms, and all the farmers could bring their fresh milk there to be held for the tankers, without needing to install or operate their own equipment.
