Emergency Door Ignition Bypass

Howdy y'all,

I have a 2005 Thomas Saf-T-Liner HDX (rear engine) and I'm having issues figuring out how to bypass my emergency door interlock system. It is preventing me from being able to start my bus via the key from the front of the bus and I can only start my bus from the rear at the engine. I have already ripped out my emergency exits and their switches.

I have already attempted to follow the instructions here: c_hasbeen's post on how to remove the thomas vandalock ignition interlock and this YouTube video by zoomy; however, the layout is different.

I have figured out that rather than going to the panel under the driver's window, that my four pink wires from the ignition goes to the panel near the main door. From there...I'm a bit lost. I have found the buzzer, but cannot locate the relay referred to in the post.

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

Here is the panel were my four pink wires go into...

Here are the four pink wires...

Skip down to my post on the thread you referenced from hasbeen. There I describe what many are doing on an HDX.

There are 4-5 start relays on boards 1-4.
Each checks a different door/window in series. Just bypass all of that shite!

Good luck.

Hey Dave,

Thanks. I'll give that a try. Just for my understanding, you basically rigged the key to run from the rear button rather than it's normal circuit...bypassing the whole interlock system because the rear start button can start the engine regardless of the emergency door situation.

On the door buzzers them selves, if you disconnect the buzzer, you either have to ground one wire, or connect the 2 wires together to disable the unit.

Exactly! A mechanic would waste time walking through busses latching windows and jiggling doors trying to satisfy the buzzers in an unfamiliar bus. So he gets the EASY button in the rear.
