Float to Fast

Hi, all—

Thanks for your help the other day with my inverter/charger. Everything is functioning now, AC reads as normal on the display and the charger is working.

Does anyone know why it would shift back and forth from “fast charging” to “float charge” every minute or so?

It shouldn't, but not doing damage.

How adjustable? Link to the manual and the battery spec sheet.

I can adjust the charging current. The manual leaves a little something to be desired, but it does say that it’s useful to turn it down for a small array (I have two 100ah AGM batteries). They don’t suggest a particular percentage, but I’ll start at 25 tomorrow and see how that goes.

I recently watched the Offgrid Garage guy talk about solar charge controller configuration to ensure the charge/float cycles are spaced out enough to allow top balancing. I know you're talking about an inverter, but perhaps it is configurable, and the values are a bit too close together?

Sorry, didn’t link the manual.

Neither Return to Bulk voltage nor Absorb Hold Time is not adjustable, so likely just depends on the AGM model

Be prepared to need replacing every 2-3 years in frequent deep cycling use.

Do not spend extra on a top-notch AGM bank using that charger.

Might work better with LFP I suppose

We’re not full timers, and barring apocalyptic scenarios (which I guess feels more probable than 18 months ago), we won’t be. I think we’ll be all right with our summer trips and weekend jaunts.

Thanks!
