FREE solar panels (and dirt cheap ones too)

I hope I dont run afoul of the mods here, but when you come across something this good, you just have to share it. As a member with several hundred posts over time, hopefully it will be seen this isnt a shameless advert. Its just a screaming deal I want to share with our community!

I just purchased qty 10 ea of Renesolar 300 watt PV panels. These are 72 cell poly modules, bare aluminum frame, "used for two years" (two were new, not even dirty and still had the bumper corners on them). Price? $0.38/watt. Less than $115 per panel. I picked them up in Phoenix so I got "free" freight.

It is my general understanding these were removed from service as part of a settlement. There is nothing wrong with the panels, but since they are used, they cant be resold via the usual distribution channels. I've now tested three of them, and they all made 220-235 watts under far less than perfect solar conditions. I have no doubt they will make the nameplate power on a clear day with proper alignment. (FYI I just tossed them on the lawn and hooked them up. Just a go/no-go kind of test). Some of the panels do have scratches on the frames (big deal) and have a goodly layer of dust so most were clearly installed somewhere. Others are in like-new condition.

This same vendor also had FREE solar shingles. In fact, he last had 10 ea 40 foot conex boxes full of them. No gimmicks. No sales crap. Just a "use what you take and do not attempt to sell them" promise.

Both of these deals are located in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami. Pickup is encouraged. Shipping is possible at your expense.

MODS: I will not publish the name of the vendor until I get your approval. I am self-reporting this post just to be safe.

ALL YA'LL's: If you want the name, PM me.

Disclaimer: I have no financial or personal interest of any kind in this vendor.

Wow! That's a good deal. It's half the price per watt that I paid for my eight new Sharp 255 watt Grade B panels a few years ago. What's important is to avoid having to pay trucking/freight charges.

I think I know who the vendor is!

Any idea why the solar shingles are free?
They do not work or what?

Well, so far, in a sample size of 300 shingles, 15 out of 16 work absolutely flawlessly. They are simply the victims of a lawsuit and subsequent settlement. The mfgr bought them back.

There are indeed a few duds, but they have been clearly damaged during removal. (the removal crew used pry bars not considering the effects they would have on the shingles. Nor did they care. These were on the way to the dump when they were intercepted). The underlying lawsuit did not seem to attack the shingles per se, instead it attacked a couple of installation issues and the (grossly expanded) claims of a certain salesman. Basically the product performed flawlessly and per spec.

Ymmv.

BTW: I went ahead and self-reported my own post to the mods in search of some guidance. If they approve it, I'll publish the name of the vendor. So far, however, no directive has been issued for or against, so I'll continue to respond to PM's out of an abundance of caution.

I've seen this same vendor, and am very interested in the shingles BUT I haven't been able to get the fellow on the phone.

Seems like you got some of the Shingles? Could you post some photos? Are they flexible?

To clarify: I have not played with the shingles myself. My partner in crime is goofing with them to great joy however. The reports I get are from him. He's a retired NASA engineer with impeccable credentials. He LOVES these shingles. At last count he had something like 300 of these applied on his garage/shed. He coupled them to a $99 inverter (another turnback, valued at about 2 grand) and was having big fun.

Specs (from memory) are 30 watts and 6 volts. Size are the same as a common roofing shingle. Wish I had better dimensions for you.
