Engine cranks but won't turn over. Does anyone out there have any knowledge on this particular bus. Or suggestions?

Have you removed any of the wiring at this point? Some of the safety mechanisms much be working for the bus to turn over. For example, some will crank but not turn over if the rear door or roof hatches are open (or if the sensor has been cut).

A little confused, aren't turning over and cranking the same thing?

It sounds like you are saying that when you engage the key, the starter spins the engine but it does not start. Is that correct,?

If so, is there any grey smoke coming from the exhaust? Light grey smoke from the exhaust tells us that you are getting fuel.

No grey smoke likely indicates a fuel problem.

Tell us a little more about the running history of the bus? Anything notable just prior to the failure?

The Vandalock system usually disables the started.

If the starter engages and spins I don't think that the safety interlock is the root of the problem.

Low charge on batteries will crank but not fast enough to fire I'm told.

What was the outside temp? It took a few hours with the block heater plugged in to get ours to fire up when trying one morning when the overnight temps were down in the single digits (F). It would crank, but not fire until things got warmed up a bit.

Good points.

Perhaps you may want to pull your batteries and clean posts and clamps. Charge overnight, plug your block heater in overnight and then reinstall batteries.

These engines are very oil sensitive. Oil viscosity will effect the firing of the injectors because they are HEUI style. These use 15w40, nothing thinner.

Also I've seen prime pumps leak and allow the engine to loose its prime, all the fuel siphons back to the tank.

As long as it doesnt have a grid heater, most dont, or have glow plugs, they typically dont, but I have to caution you for your safety, you can try to crank it with Ether.

If it starts and stays running then you may have a priming issue.

ether in an 'E' series engine is not good.. mechanical is OK.. too many unknowns here..

WARN light staying on when key is on?

as others have said these engines need a Tall charge on the batteries..

ECM fuses good?

That baffles me....

Educate me? How is a 7.3 IDI motor better than the "E"?

While I do recognize some advantages to the mechanical DT's, CTA's and BTA's I would have thought that the "new" T444E is a better motor for our application rather than the old non-turbo IDI's.
