Inverter on generator works without the generator running?

Are there any inverter generators out there that operate the inverter function off the batteries, or does the generator have to be running in order to operate the inverter? I am hoping to replace my inverter with a gen/inverter combo if thatís even possible.

I'm sure there are battery type inverter "generators" out there but they are typically just a battery bank with an onboard inverter and charger.

Inverter generators though only use the onboard battery for starting (if they even have an onboard battery... some dont). The inverter is only there to allow the engine to run at different RPM yet produce the same voltage and frequency.

Yes, the inverter controls on a generator

is a completely different device from those used to produce AC from a battery bank.

Inverter/Chargers are great devices, see Magnum and Victron units

but still need the inverter-type gensets for energy inputs, if the energy produced from solar panels and/or alternator power is insufficient.

Oh yeah okay that makes sense, I also realize I still want shore power too in which case Iíd still need my current inverter/charger. Thanks
