Mounting generator

Looking for some ideas on hanging a generator off the back bumper. Easy task but for being a R/E bus I need some design ideas.

Re: Mounting generator

I need all the belly storage that I have. Theft isnt an issue, rear ended would be. Its either that or the front bumper. I dont want it underneath, for a multitude of reasons. Chances are it would be running going down the road at times, as well.

Re: Mounting generator

I might have missed the info on what size genset you are going to use .. but if it's a portable one that won't weigh a ton (or so) you could mount it on a hitch/receiver .. easily removed for maintenance and can also be set away from the bus when you are parked and don't want to listen to it )or need some space for exhaust fumes) .. use twist-lock connectors to keep anything from falling apart while using when going down the road or at "home" ..

.. if you ever change over to a trailer you can put it on the tongue in a separate box/housing on the trailer ..

.. keeps you pretty modular and portable until you come up with a final setup .. and it's a pretty affordable way to go as well ..

Re: Mounting generator

Its an Onan BFA 4.0. Weights less than 250#, add some for a battery and fuel tank. I was thinking 2 receiver hitches, with one having a pivot on it so it would swing out of the way for when I want to get into the engine compartment.

Re: Mounting generator

Sounds like you already have an idea that would work. Lock that sucker down. It's amazing how many generators will just vanish!

We are thinking of building a hauler for our future scooter. We want to do a dual "receiver hitch" on the front of the bus. We built the rear receiver so it can't be too much different (just twice the work! )

My biggest complaint about my Hitchhaul is that it "wobbles" unless the load is balanced. A dual receiver would fix that.

Re: Mounting generator
