Multimeter recommendations and mystery wire running into storage box

This is running into the (only) undermount storage box and connected to nothing. It’s underneath where the stop sign used to be on the drivers side. I’m wondering if it was originally attached to something for that or one of those extending arms.

I need to get a multimeter, any suggestions for a reliable no frills one I can get on amazon? I know there’s so much cheap junk with fake or paid reviews, I don’t mind paying a little more for something I know will work properly so I don’t someday short things out.

This one won't break the bank and has a lot of decent features. I have one and like it well enough to buy it again if it dies.

That wiring is likely for a light that use to live in there.

I've had cheap ones. Actually two in the last couple years... They break too easily.
If you want a GOOD one maybe look for a used but working professional model. I had a Snap On from the 90's that was excellent.

It's good for those who aren't as familiar with electronics because it will light up where you plug the leads in based on which setting you choose. It has a decent bumper around it so it should handle a light beating. So far, it's been a good tool to teach my 13 year old on.

YEah a rubber bumper helps em last longer for sure. The light up plugs are a good idea!

Is that an airline in the pic as well? Could be from the stop sign.

Meters are not meant to fall or be dropped but that happens. Start with cheapy and collect them. I have about 5 laying around, but use only 1 anymore.

I do like having a clamp ammeter in a multi-meter. Got to make sure it does DC as well as AC. Cost is more, but clamping around a wire and measuring the current (amps) is truly priceless.

yup, airline as well. The stop sign is MIA and there's a little wire from it too I have to cap off. The arm bumper thing or something like it is disassembled in the bus and I want to figure out some way to repurpose part of it, even as just a bit of reflective decoration.
