Question about my transfer switch

So the question is:

I have a 50A go power transfer switch and i have a 50a service connected to the shore power side of it with the green to ground, white to neutral, black to hot and red to hot.

I have a 30 amp generator which only has 3 wires.. green, white, black.

it is hooked into the transfer switch and works properly when power is supplied from the generator.

however, only one side of the panel is getting power. I understand that the black to black wire supplies power to that side of the panel and since nothing is connected to the red wire side of the transfer switch no power is there.

is it possible to jumper the black wire across to the red side to get power to both sides?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is what many (all?) dogbone connectors do. Just remember, instead of 50 amps (@ 110VAC) feeding each panel, you would have 30 amps feeding both panels (30 amps total instead of 100 amps total).

So long as you don't have any 240 volt equipment in the bus, yes, you could connect both the red and black "hot" lines from your shore power to the one black hot output from the generator. The breaker panel would then be fully energized.

Make sure it's done in such a way that if you plug the shore power to another source, ie one that does supply both hot legs, the hot-to-hot jumper won't still be in the picture.

Thanks for the answer.. I was thinking of actually splitting the black wire by soldering a red wire to it in a y shape to allow the black to be hooked up to the red and black side of the transfer switch so no jumpering in that method..

I do NOT have any 240v appliance or equipment in my skoolie so that wont be a problem at all.

Again thanks for the quick response and confirmation.
