What battery charger is good for future solar?
Our battery charger has pooped out on us. We're intending to go solar within the next few months, and with this in mind I'm shopping for a new one. Does anyone have recommendations? I'm hoping to spend around $50 for the charger, but if there's a such thing as a charge controller/charger all in one I'd be willing to spend more.
Also, with the idea of changing over, does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to buy quality solar cells? I'm willing to build my own panel from cells rather than buy a pre-assembled kit if it saves me money. As far as power needs, we have a fridge compressor that runs maybe an hour or two a day (depending on outside temp) at 220w, and lights that we use for maybe four hours a night that pull 30w. That's really all we use on a daily basis, but we also have a tv (60w), dvd player (15w), stereo (15w), and laptop (60w) that are used occasionally. We have a generator that we currently use to charge the battery. At the moment we have one large deep cycle 12v marine battery (I think it's the biggest one Autozone or Advance carries), but will be adding another one when we go solar.
I am very bad at electrical math, though I think I understand the general concept. Any help is appreciated!
