Warning: BEWARE generator scams

Looking for a nice inverter generator for your schoolie? Maybe something like a Honda EU7000is, but find out they are rather expensive?

If you search Google shopping, you may be stunned after finding there are companies in Asia offering them at half price or less, with $199 "flat fee" shipping anywhere in the world (who ships a 252 lb generator from Indonesia to any other country for that price?) Many of those companies are in Indonesia, Places like:
  • Andrew Equipment Store
  • Automart Marine.Com
  • Jack's Marine
  • Mr and Mrs fast Sale
  • Justin Power Equipment
  • Jarvin Power Tools
What are the signs they are outright scams?
  • Most of the places are WAY overseas, like in Indonesia.
  • All the sites have pretty much the same layout.
  • If you check their physical address it makes zero sense (a tool store in a playground?)
  • They don't answer emails.
  • Their chat tool doesn't work.
  • The phone has the right country code but a mobile number prefix.
  • The prices are TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, often as much as 60% off MSRP.
  • The shipping cost is absurd. No one ships a 250+ lb generator from a foreign country to the US for $199 by FedEx, UPS, DHL or air freight.
I really shouldn't have to post a message like this, but unfortunately there are stu... <del><del><del> naive people who fall for these scams hook, line and sinker.

Some times they are legit. Paying with PayPal leaves me with no concerns.

I have not found a single one selling at a 60% discount that was legit. And even if you pay with PayPal the scammer can string you on for weeks and weeks until you get your refund, particularly if they claim that the shipment has been delayed because of the pandemic. I have seen it happen with smaller purchases. But if you want to try it anyway, knock yourself out, all I can do is tell you not to put your finger in the socket.

I sure wouldn’t believe it if there were someone selling a new Honda generator at a deep discount. I would think at the most it was counterfeit crap

It's not even a counterfeit; they have no product, period.

Thats what I thought. Different company/product but they were able to provide PayPal with a delivery receipt and denied my claim. The main reason I ordered it was my assumed buyer protection. I was just curious what they would send me and it didn't break me but... They're clever

thats exactly the scam in my opinion..they used Covid and supply chain issues as their excuse to keep your money.. they can take it and sopend / invest it for sometimes months, paypal will refund eventually but it takes them awhile to do it.. sometimes the seller has already closed account and gone onto the next fake account.. even if you get your $$ back the seller keeps it and scams the next person. they dont answer emails because they just have bots downloading their email looking for payments to process.. the rest of it just gets trashed.. to keep people coming they will occasionally ship something out thats actually good so the person will vouch for them / give them good reviews that arew genuine etc..
