What is the second battery underneath bus?

Hi guys,

Underneath my shuttle bus there is a small box with a battery hooked up. I have a GMC E-350 Shuttle which had a wheelchair lift at the rear which we removed.

My initial thinking is that the second battery is for that, and when we removed the battery and ran the engine and tested the air-conditioner and such, nothing seems to have been affected by its removal.

Can anyone confirm without looking that it was indeed for the lift?

-------------------> Secondly, I want to be able to charge my house batteries when we drive. This battery would have been charged when the engine is on and now I am left with its cables in the box where we will have the house batteries...

Could I somehow use the cables to also charge my house batteries when I drive? Otherwise I was thinking of purchasing this:

Any help here would be appreciated... Thanks!

It's for powering the lift, usually.
