Wire Tracer

Someone mentioned a wire tracer in a post. Did a search and found this would be quite a handy tool for our application. It won't tell me what the wire is for, but where it starts and ends, which is half the battle. Today I unhooked the harness from the rear of the bus and drug that end to the drivers seat where I sat with my MM and step on peddle and turned signals and what have you. I was looking for a place to ground a wire and found I could hook it through the hole of the key, closest convenient spot.
Question is there is a wide price range for tracers. Is this cheap one suitable for our needs?

I think that one could work. I think I paid $30 or so at Home Depot. They are often used in computer networking.

One difficulty with them is that if multiple wires run in a bundle they can all start picking up the signal, but the loudest one is usually what you are looking for.

I don’t know how I would have figured out at least one thing on my bus any other way.
