Black tank all the way for me. It's bad enough I have to carry all the food in through the living room into the kitchen when it doesn't stink. There's absolutely no way I'm carrying everybody's poo through the kitchen and living room in a sack to get rid of it! I'll gladly hook up a non-see-thru hose and open a valve and let it drain. Drain the grey water after that and there isn't really even anything to clean up. End of story! Now I'm off to grill me up a nice juicy burger and some veggies to deposit in the black tank later on.

Maybe it’s just my inexperience in such things but why black and gray? Just more capacity? The biggest complaint I hear about black is it gets stopped up when draining because the solids don’t move.. if you have one tank wouldn’t you be able to get a nice siphon action going to suck most everything out?

I think the general idea is the black tank would fill up too fast with everything else draining into it. A few years ago we had our 5th wheel at the family reunion and all our kids were with us. We went a week without filling the black tank full, but I had to empty the grey tank every night due to everyone showering every day. I would have had to uproot every day to find a dump station if there was only one tank. Instead, we were able to drain the grey tank onto my dads lawn each night because we use eco-friendly soaps. I believe there are a lot of places that allow you to drain grey water as long as it is all eco-friendly.

Why should someone believing something, but not forcing their ethics on others cause them to lose credibility or mean they are "on both sides of something"?
I respect that.

Maybe you're asking the wrong question
Okay, we know what you don't want. Try telling us what you do want. Describe it in detail what you expect and what it looks like if you designed it. You can create a compost toilet yourself.

It's MHO that you would be better off with a clear hose. That way you can see when your water runs clear instead of guessing if it's empty inside the tank. If you have to clean out your tank, you want it completely done instead of a partial job, which leaves you with stink and debris. The less you have to dump and clean, the better so why not do it right the first time? The clear hose is nasty to look at but you know the tank is clean.

lol. Funny how a compost toilet thread was started by "squatters". Yes, years ago Builders reading old threads may want to see more composting toilets. We built ours early to try encourage a relationship between our butts and the sh_t box. It's now parked next to my home toilet. Working out the kinks in a safe place. ie lady time.

We began to feel the pressure of our deadline to leave the state approaching and we needed underbelly storage in order for the Wostman to function properly. While it was an awesome toilet, we found out that Separette started making a tiny model of their composting toilet. We pulled the Wostman and tossed in the Separette a day before we left.
The Separette has some quirks that I the manufacturer should have noticed before mass producing them, but it is what it is.
Thanks for watching the tour video. We also did one with A&E while in Arizona. You can see the hole in the wall behind the Separette that is left over from the Wostman. We plan to fix this eventually.

Don't know if it's different for you as the poster, but for me your video says A&E blocked it over the copyright.

Just found this discussion so I thought Id add in my own experience.
First off, my wife an I are Vegans, so that dramatically cuts down on the stink. Raw meat fermenting in your intestines isn't pleasant when it comes out. Having said that, I built my own composting toilet, out of a discarded cabinet I cut in half and added a front.
Total cost, 0 dollars.
Mistake I made was I didn't add enough room for separating urine. when you separate, the urine can be dumped into say a flower bed, its totally safe.
The #2 stuff which I mix with saw dust in the 5 gal painters bucket goes straight into a compost to stay there for a year, then goes into my non-edible plant fertilizer.
When traveling, it just goes into a plastic bag and get dumped.
My toilet is here:

I may, buy one already built from this person, but I may also just add a urine separator. Haven't decided.

I have an airhead and it is capable of using regular commode seats, They almost all fit nicely and the embroidered ones look nice on them.. Just my 2 cents.
