Re: water pump

I'm partial to the Shurflo 2088 pump. Holds up well and pump head is replaceable at a decent price. I've had several. Our last one to poop out on us was from the late 70's and they no longer made the replacement pump head. Our other pump is still going strong (2.8 gpm from the early 80's). The new expensive Shurflo pumps aren't a good. Lots of RVers have had problems (The sensor ones). The Whisper King is good but the 2088 is till the workhorse of the lot... no frills just hard working and dependable. Some folks like Flojet but I have no personal experience with them. We are currently;y running the 2.8 gpm in the current Class C. It is definitely sufficient to use with a low flow shower head. It's also a little cheaper.

This place has good prices and reasonable shipping. They often beat out everyone else. Make sure you get a check valve for the pump. Some places offer it together, others sell separately.

Re: water pump

I have heard only bad things about the Shurflo Extreme 5.7 Smart Sensor. I think it would be better to run two pumps than to invest in the Extreme. Perhaps they have been fixed but I have heard that they leak or the motor poops out.

Me? I would run two pumps and I probably will (need to add a washing machine and a dishwasher). But that's me.

Re: water pump

When figuring GPM, also figure how many people will be in the bus. A low GPM pump might be great for solo travels, but not so great if someone might turn on the kitchen faucet while you are trying to shower. In our old house, a call of "Here comes the hot!" before a toilet flush would warn bathers in advance of a loss of cold water pressure. I'm just sayin' . . . .

Also, I can't picture running a washing machine or dishwasher off of one's tanks, but saving the loads for when you are hooked to campground/city water pressure and drainage, where the pump size wouldn't matter, anyway. But as always, YMMV.

Perhaps your friend thought that you wanted/needed to run a washing machine. Although a washing machine will operate just fine, albeit fills slower, with low water pressure. I know this from experience since we have had water supplies from spring fed cisterns (not much of a head so low water pressure at one place and one was just a low powered pump). Only an automatic dishwashing machine requires 40 lbs of water pressure... perhaps your friend thought you were going to install a DW?
