Best types of heating?

Just moved to Montana, and will be living in my Skoolie for the first year while I build. I’ll be going through one winter in my bus, and I have a wood stove (the Hobbit), but am looking for something else as a backup/when I have to leave the house.

I’ve lived in my bus for 4 years full time now, but that was in California. The wood stove was my only heat source. Montana? That’s a whole different animal. I won’t have electricity, but do have a 3500 generator.

I’m open to any ideas.

The little diesel parking heaters are great. They come with a thermostat and I’ve left mine on for weeks at a time. My 5000k unit keeps a 35” bus with about half the windows remaining warm to about 0 degrees. If I were planning on montana winters I would put two in to be safer.

Where will you be in Montana? The whole state gets chilly in the winter, but some places are significantly colder than others.

I second the diesel heaters. I got a cheap Chinese 5K unit and it is pretty amazing. I'm nowhere near finished converting, so I don't have "real" experience with it, but it allowed me to comfortably work on the mostly-uninsulated bus all winter. After a few weeks with the stock thermostat, I bought the Afterburner control module (Afterburner Website) and love it. Nothing better than rolling out of bed, turning on the bus heater from my phone, and making coffee in the house while the bus warms up.
