Rigid lines need flexible couplings anyway, and copper/steel pipes spring leaks from time to time.

They buy the rubber hose by the mile, so it's probably cost-effective.

It's cheaper easier and quicker for the manufacturer and as TWIGG mentioned even ridgid pipe needs flexible connections.
There are many ways to go about the ridgid pipe and the flexible connections.
As well as thoughts and opinions.
When or if you decide to go that direction let us know and through the many opinions and your money base I am sure we can help with an workable option.

By your sketch you are planning to run the 2 heaters in series. The one with the 5/8" fittings will surely restrict the flow to a lot less than the one with the 1" fittings is expecting to see. You might choke the existing bus heater if you put that small one in series.
