Can you keep dash AC, but remove the large rear unit?

Hello, first time bus builder here. Just wondering if it is possible to remove the large rear AC unit. But, keep the dash AC working or are they usually linked together? I know most people's opinion is to keep the rear ac, but I have a short bus and would like the space if possible. So just exploring options.
Thanks for any tips in advance!

Sorry, should have included that. It's a 2009 Chevy Collins. You mentioning your wife has an 04 chevy sounds promising!

yes 04 chevy collins.
got rid of the unit in the back and the underskirt condensor and bought a used van condensor from LKQ for like 50$ and the new proper lines from parts geek for around 50$ for both of them and did the install myself.

Because you're new to the forum you may not have seen the extensive discussions regarding the pros and cons of removing the rear A/C unit.

Many folks in the forum suggest you carefully consider whether you want a rig that has no means to keep cool on the road (as you will if you removed the rear unit). Some folks don't care as they are chasing 70 degrees, so to speak. Others have come to regret removing the unit as they travel through the southwest in the summer.

A mini-split generally cannot be run while driving.

Be Careful. If your bus has only one A/C compressor then they are fore sure hooked together.
On my school’s small buses the factory A/C condenser is is not used at all even though the dash evaporator is still used.

interesting that your busses would even have the factory condenser in front of the radiator.. the van chassis usually ship without them if a tie-in system is being installed..

If you decide to get rid of it, I’d be interested in it!
