whilst i am retired now... my dad put in a white gas stove on the counter in his 1935 chevy bus, and in the travel trailers he built after that, and no fires happened, so i imagine it would work in todays world, esp with propane. 25 yrs ago, i built a camper for my pickup and put a marine alcohol cook top on the counter in it, and that worked... so if i had nothing else, i would use a camp stove until i got a drop in stove with oven. just my 2 cents worth.
i have a magic chef range in my current bus.

I would suggest that if you go with a camping stove cooktop that you go ahead and add an exhaust vent at the same time. Not due to any safety reasons but just to keep the grease/heat/cooking odors at bay. They aren't expensive if you get the right kinds. We put in a Ventline V2215 side wall fan from Amazon ($54.50). It works great. I have a small fluorescent light above the range for light.

i plan to salvage a old range like off like an oven, cut it in half and drop in 2 burners on my counter top with the propane tank underneath in a cabnet.

Please don't put your propane tank inside your bus unless you build a well sealed propane locker!

The RV stove I scored from a trashed travel trailer required no additional clearance outside of its own envelope. Most will have the required clearances posted right one them. That said, get a good range hood. My stove was always unpleasant to use because it heated and scented the entire bus with whatever you were cooking. You'd think the smell of bacon would be intoxicating all the time, but 4 hours after you ate it can be a bit much.

lorna, what if i had installed a vent with a fan inside the cabnet to vent out the "if any" leaked gasses? along with a sealed door to the cabnet?

To be safest, put the LP outside. With careful planning, you can fit a 20 lb BBQ tank under the side skirt of the bus by making sure the collar fits between the floor ribs. You irritate me... I would prefer that you keep on irritating me as opposed to not! Please build your LP locker outside your bus. Besides, you most likely need all the interior space available to fill with other stuff.


We've had an LP tank vent (outside) it is not pleasant. I would hate to have that happen INSIDE.

Do you really want to mount an electric fan inside of a cabinet with the express purpose of venting said cabinet in the chance of
a propane leak inside of the cabinet?
