Dickenson diesel bulkhead heater

I was watching a fellow skoolie tour and saw they used a boat heater. Figured I’d share as it’s diesel and looks perfect.

How does that boat heater, which is jetted to run at sea level or maybe up to a few thousand feet perform at altitudes above 3000 plus feet. Since it is, by design, a boat heater.

Dickinson also makes at least a couple of different sizes of propane fireplaces that look very similar to this diesel heater.

I think it doesn’t injects fuel. I think it wicks it.

Here's a link to the larger of Dickinson's 2 propane fireplaces that I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread.

Dickinson is a Canadian company, so the price given is in Canadian dollars. According to xe.com's currency converter today's price would be a few cents over $1086 US.

I would shop around. A former neighbor of mine bought a number of the propane and wood versions. He found an outfit that offered them for under $600. They didn't stock them. They drop shipped from the manufacturer. IIRC it took about three weeks to deliver.

I wish I could remember the name of the company......

Well, if you're anything like me the name of that company will pop into your head when you're trying to think about something else.

I am not committed to Dickinson at this point. They're just so easy to find.

But now that I've looked, I easily found something else that is very interesting, much cheaper, but not quite ready yet. I'm not quite ready yet myself, but I have signed onto their email list to be kept up to date on availibilty, so we'll see about this one:

I like the idea of having a reliable diesel powered heat source in the bus that's not a traditional RV unit. I keep forgetting that boaters already invented this wheel 500 years ago.

What happens if they put one of these on a boat in Lake Titicaca (12,500 ft.)?

Speaking of cats & dogs - unnatural intimacy aside - they're the reason we stopped entertaining the idea of a heater like this, or any similar heater for that matter. At least the cat is. All it would take is one wayward leap for Texas Ranger to become cooked kitty. I've read at least one account of a cat doing the same and the results were not pretty.

Shame though. I think the Dickinson is beautiful, and per specs, definitely puts out enough heat to have kept us comfy in a short bus. Being diesel is another big plus. Little pricey though.

They also make a water-heater loop element that incorporates into that thing. Don't know much more about it. The documentation on that bit is pretty sparse.
