mounting internal part of rooftop air con

i have a dometic penguin 2 installed on the curved roof, but cant figure out how to install the plastic inside air distribution box (ADB, they are a matched set but came with no instructions). the internal metal 'clamping' plate is much smaller than the adb and has no screw holes for it. it appears that the adb needs a flat framework to attach to on the ceiling which is of course curved. The ADB does not have any flexibility to bend.

has anyone run into this issue, or have any idea how to solve it? i can run tools but cant visualize the finished product in this case. could it be something that gets pushed up into the (to be enlarged) 14" hole?

I have installed at least five roof airs on buses and not run into the issue that you are seeing. The inside trim conformed to the curved ceiling easily. You have a larger gap in the center than what I saw. Also, four of them went into bus with a fabric headliner that was thick enough that it hid any gap that may have remained.

They are meant to go on a flat ceiling, and to be screwed to the ceiling. You could take a piece of wood and cut it to the curve of the roof to use as a filler. So the wood would be the thickness at the middle as shown in your picture and taper to nothing at the ends. Make one for each end.
