Portable Vent Fan Prototype

Here is my prototype of a removable vent fan for my school bus windows. It currently has 2 PC fans and a speed controller. Overall this works better than any "rv vent fan" I've come across AND you don't have to cut any holes for it. I used Noctua PC fans so even at max speed it is dead quiet. The final version will look a lot nicer, I will add a third fan and a switch to reverse the direction. While the CFM is lower than standard RV vent fans at 360, I feel the portability makes up for it. I could move the unit to any window in my bus for example while I'm cooking. Having two of these would likely out perform any RV vent fan. The price for one of these including my time building it is around $100. What do you guys think about these? Have you made your own versions or would you find something like this useful?

That's a great idea for above the stove. I've knocked around the idea of a flip-down vent fan with small fans like that, but I like that yours is removable and would be easy to stow away. Great job!

I did something similar-ish for the window behind my cooktop. I made a self-contained housing that locks securely in place when the window is dropped down to its first detent, but it can be easily removed in a few seconds if needed. It contains eight 80mm computer fans, four of which are medium-flow and four are high-flow. To prevent rain or outside air coming in I pull a handle that opens a flap and the first four fans come on, then if I pull it further the other four fans come on. I think it will work just fine, and it doesn't need any roof penetrations. So far, so good!

If you want something that already exists for cheap. It won't be as powerful but it works.

Solar Powered Vent Fan $27.99 on Amazon

It's designed for car windows

30 dollar 16inch reversable radiator fan with a 16 dollar varable speed controller can move much more air than any computer fan. used this on hot days to cool and exhause weld fumes. i can replace the air in the whole bus in 30 seconds on high

Interesting, I need to lower the windows and see what the dimensions are there

And will have to figure out power sources

I think their idea was not cutting holes in the roof.. and im assuming most people cover or replace their hatches in some way since they are sources of leaks..

the Defrost on my DEV bus takes in 100% fresh air if i want it to.. and leavingthe bus parked wit hthe defrost fan on low actually does help it stay a bit cooler and gives the AC an easier time....

Most do not cover the hatches and rad fans come in different sizes and can be used in a window too. Never assume
