With the skoolie group these's always interest...... Like MAN I gotta see this......

6 inches sounds good but I would do some research online to see what's the recommended spacing floor radiant floor heat..

Radiant floor heating is an awesome idea. It works well. Have you considered electrical elements? I was wanting to do that in my bus, but could not afford it.

Many years ago I would visit my aunt and uncle. They had "electric floors". It was great to run around in their house barefooted in the winter.

Don't you need some kind of thermal mass to absorb the heat?

I don't think electric floors would be very cost effective. My home (a late 1940's all elect) came with 440 V floor heaters. When we could no longer stand the elect. bill (440 is cheaper than 110 V), one months elect bill paid for converting the heat to forced air gas! Jack

I'm installing radiant heat, using a diesel fired boiler, with a heat exchanger to pick up heat from engine when running. Right now I'm working on getting the boiler installed. Plans are for 4 zones using a pump for each zone that runs from a thermostat. I'll also be getting domestic hot water from the system.

Shawn, the "raised panels" are walnut cabinet doors. I scored them for free. They came out of a tour bus. There is a lot of wood in my bus. I wish I had used it on the ceiling. There are some members here who have done that.

Dick, I would like to see a pic of the diesel fired boiler. I understand that while the engine is running, you could capture the heat. Would the boiler also work when the bus is parked?

I sure wish my noisy diesel motor was in the rear of my bus. Driving this thing is like flying a Piper Cub airplane.

You might want to use PEX rather than copper. Upside about PEX (other than the abilty ti withstand movement better than copper) is that it's not fond of making tight bends. Which goes well with the turn radius required in radiant floor heating. It's pretty close.

Radiantec has some of the best installation instructions I've seen on their web page under "Do It Yourself".
