Rear AC removal - 2002 e450 7.3

Hi everyone !

New brain scratch taking down A/C unit .. !!

Found a nice bypass pulley to replace my AC Compressor. Dorman part number 34189. For some reason, its not the right part, im missing 1/4 inch depth towards rear of the pedestal, even without using any washers.

That part doesn't even seem to have the back leg on the proper side i’d expect it to fit either.

Dorman’s tech-support just told me they do only have the GASOLINE bypass pulley for the 7.3 e450, not quite fitting the diesel engine.

The bus is a 2002 e450 PSD 7.3, thomas built with an added AC Carrier unit i removed, and special needs equipments.

What am i missing here ??

** Update **

Ford tech support says E-350/450/550 Econoline 7.3 all take the same AC compressor part number.
So im assuming there has to be a way of bypassing it.
Maybe there is no need for bypass pulley ?
In that case, would need a shorter belt ? A new belt diagram (or just skipping that pulley) ??

Where am i going ? ^^

Can't you just use the compressor as an idler? The pump inside doesn't spin unless the clutch is engaged. There is only one compressor for front and rear units. Unless you need the space in the engine bay for something else?

Great to learn about the clutch situation ! That makes things much more clear and easier then. Dont necessarily need that space.

No problem. If you don't want it to ever turn on. Unplug the clutch wire at the top of the pulley and ziptie it out of the way.

One thought I do want to add... The AC is used in the defrost mode of the heating system. So without the compressor it may take longer to clear the windshield in colder weather.

if this is an E450 and you take out your rear unit you are also destroying your dashboard air unless there is a complete second compressor and condensor...
