Replacing ceiling vent with a MaxxAir fan

Hi all, my Thomas bus has some sort of passive vent built into the ceiling, close to the front of the bus. I can see the "void" in my perforated ceiling from inside, and there's a square cover (not unlike the shape of a tiny MaxxAir fan actually) on the roof.

My plan at this point is to cut around this existing vent and replace it with an actual MaxxAir fan, unless someone here can convince me that I need to keep this passive vent. I'm pretty married to the idea of keeping my emergency hatches at this point, so either way I'll be cutting a new hole in the ceiling.

So, thoughts, yea or nay?

yea, active controllable CFM is great

Just make sure you have sufficient inlets in strategic locations, help evacuate fumes, increase airflow on the fridge electronics, breeze over the bed...

I’m contemplating putting another Maxxair over the bed, but the mini split will also be back there and I’m not made of money so I’m starting with one fan and seeing how it goes.

the passive vent is worthless. Ditch it and get yourself that powered roof vent. Totally worth it all day.

I agree with ECCB.

Overall, I like the design. But the fiberglass blocks most of the airflow. Yet it's always open, leaking air. Also a good place for stowaways to enter.

I sealed mine, but I absolutely see the advantage of replacing it with a powered fan, to move more air.
