Rooftop A/C prices

Anyone have a source for small to medium sized RV style A/C units? Looks like $500 and up... hoping for a better deal than that

Husker ,I am sorry that i wasted your time with my useless reply, You have not listed your location. I assumed when you asked mullet if he had one that you were in the area since mullet and I are not that far apart. I guess you were willing to make to five our drive up to him?

So do everybody a favor and don't waste time... fill out your location.

Biggest thing with roof top ac units, is how do you plan on powering it? The old units consume a lot of juice and aren't very efficient compared to the newer ones. a 15k btu unit might take 20 amps of power to run. I know mine will not run on a 3500 watt generator whereas a newer one will, so take that fwiw.

You also have to realize that an old unit might not have a lot of life left in it. And as far as servicing and repair of old units, I'm pretty sure it's nonexistent, so keep that in mind as well. Do you spend 300 on an old unit that conks out after a year of use, or spend 500 on something that will come with a warranty?

I paid 100 bucks for mine with a guarantee that it works. That was 3 years ago and it's still working. Without the guarantee though, I'd look more at the free price range when it comes to an older unit, unless it's being purchased from someone you know and trust.

My plan is to add a shore power/generator electrical setup(which holy intimidating). I guess I would be interested to see what the forum thought about pricing for a 13,500/15,000 btu Coleman/dometic. $500-$600 pretty much the best I will see? Also, great points about new vs used.

Hey, not sure what else you might need for your build but I bought a water damaged camper off of craigslist for $700 and got many useful things off of it including an A/C unit that I just installed. I also got a fridge, sink, inverter, stove, awning, furnace, and so much more. just and idea.

I actually took a run at one yesterday, but the seller never returned my message. If something comes along its absolutely something I will consider.

I started looking for insurance auctions for damaged RV's. Seem they no longer auction damaged or totaled vehicles anymore. Here everything goes to Copart where my agent tells me they offer everything at full MSRP. Can't get a deal on anything.

Try looking into an rv salvage yard. By luck i recieved a free15000 btu unit thats 2 years old for free. I probably wont get to installing it till next spring. But its one more thing i can check off my list.

Do you know of any RV specific salvage yards?
Did a quick search and there are many.

I live in minnesota and took a couple days of calling and searching online. There is one in fairmont mn and there is just a normal salvage yard by new richland Mn. Not sure if they ship parts or not. You could even try searching on eBay

The salvage yard in new richland is just a yruck and auto yard but has a few RVs in there

I mounted a New RV AC unit on the roof of my bus because it is hot in south Georgia and I did not want issues with a AC unit.
I had my bus wired for the extra needs so I was o.k.

Do not skimp on that purchase or you will be sorry, you can save on other things but not AC.

I am going on 12 years with my Coleman 13,500 AC unit.

I've been looking for a rooftop unit. My bus came from northern Pennsylvania and the AC lines below have leaks at all the joints. I'm thinking it would be cheaper to convert to a roof top unit.
I haven't priced a Coleman yet but given your endorsement, it's on my To Do list.
