Air Dryer question

Hello, been on this forum for years lurking but this is my first post.

My question is about the Air Dryer. I was able to get the original part number from Thomas Buses and then cross referenced with my local Thomas dealer for the new part number. It is a Bendix AD-9. But there are tons of versions of the AD-9. The original part number is 108502 that came with the bus. The updated replacement is 065478.

My issue is the deal want $800 for the entire assembly. I found it online from about $700 and up. Then I found the 065225 version online for anywhere from $120-$200. Does anyone know if I need to have a specific version or will the 065225 work? I am unsure of the differences and if they matter.

for reference:
My bus is a 2000 Thomas MVP-ER, been working on it now for a few years

Do you not have an air-dryer at all, or is your current one not up to snuff?

We rebuilt ours. Unless there's damage to the exterior assembly that prevents that being an option that's the way I'd go, assuming you have one. It's as good as new for a fraction of the cost.

I do believe that is what i did. Looking back through email to check part numbers, i could not find the one i purchased, but i had a couple of ebay offers for that part number. If i remember correctly the AD-9 fits and it had a heated drain port. If i get a change I will double check on the bus if i can see the label. The old one was the same part number 108502. and i purchased the new one for 180.

Yeah, I do have one but one of the valves seems to be leaking and the cartridge doesnt seem to be working any more.

You can get a dryer rebuild kit for 100 bucks that includes the cartridge, purge and check valve, and o-rings needed.

Only reason to replace IMO is if the housing is broken or corroded.

Difference in part numbers could be port sizing, standard vs extended drain, source of manufacture, etc. Not saying the 200 dollar one won't work, it just might not be plug and play.

Thanks for the info. Mine is pretty badly corroded. I was able to find a remanufactured original Bendix one that the ID numbers cross reference to for $200. Comes with the cartridge and all rebuilt valves and o-rings. I think that's the winner.
