Hydraulic Brake Lines
Good morning all,
I’m looking for flexible braided steel/rubber hydraulic brake lines for my IH3800. The lines in question are from the master cylinder on the driver’s side down to the steel lines that are chassis mounted. One side is female and the other end male. The male side is steel and connected to the master cylinder, and the female side is the braided steel/rubber end. The rubber has started to flake off and there is severe corrosion in them.
Naturally, I like to keep my vehicle’s braking system in top shape. Anyone know of some good parts suppliers who would have brake parts for an IH3800? Local parts stores up here (Advance, Autozone, NAPA) tend to be less than useless haha. There’s also a plastic sensor on the side of the master cylinder that appears to have snapped off. Any idea what it could be? I’ll post pictures after work. I’m assuming it’s a level sensor or fluid quality sensor.
The brake fluid on my bus was absolutely DISGUSTING. Blacker than crude and had clumpy shizzle wizzle in the reservoir. Still working on flushing it all.
-Nick

The dealer is the only place I know for direct replacements. I run CNC line from the master to where the rubber lines connect since CNC is flexible.

There are generally 2 sensors one for the differential pressure for the front and back brakes that grows a warning brake light if you spring a leak the other reads power steering pressure and tells the electric backup motor to start and stop as a backup for loss of power steering pressure. On the hydromax brake system if it's on the side it's the differential pressure switch

I had a hydraulic hose shop make my brakes hoses. Check your local shop and see if they have the fittings to do brake lines/hose.

In the motorcycle industry various manufacturers will make custom steel braided lines to fit, and often for not too much more than on off-the-shelf kit. There has to be the equivalent out there for larger lines, though I wouldn't know who that'd be.

Problem Resolved
Just wanted to close this out.
I ended up only being able to purchase the actual OEM part through an International dealership.
Price: $72.15
Nobody near me would make it.

Glad you have it resolved.
Funny, our local Freightliner dealer always seems to have the parts I really need for our bus, and at decent prices! There have been one or two parts they have not had and had to order and another one or two (like battery slide bearings) that they only had the complete assembly so I had to source them locally.
Any more, the dealer is one of the FIRST stops I make.

Also FWIW, here’s a picture of that sensor I mentioned earlier as well as the rotten brake line:

I see that sensor broken off on a lot of these. Not really a big deal since most of the customers don't want to fix it.

I recently had a "Traveling Mechanic" that I hired change out my brake lines and my master cylinder. We went to Advance Auto Parts and purchased the brake lines, and I was quite impressed at how he did it. We bought the old lines in the store with us so that he could match up the exact length as well as the thread size on the ends. When we got back to the bus the mechanic proceeded to bend and shape them with his hands to the exact shape of the old ones, and then put them back on. It worked great.
However, after changing the master cylinder, I'm getting a loud squeaking noise from the power steering sensor that wasn't there prior to changing the cylinder. Does anyone know why that's happening and how to fix it?

Do you happen to know where to get this replacement part or how to replace it if we are so inclined to? We have the same issue and are wondering if its worth fixing or even really necessary? Thanks

Low fluid level sensor. If you spring a leak, you will know way before you run out of fluid.

Hey, I happen to have the same part I need to replace on my 1995 3800. If it's not too much to ask, do you remember the part number?
I haven't been able to find any of the hydraulic style lines for that bus online, only air.
Thanks a ton.

Any luck with getting the part number? I’m needing to replace the same one. I’m hoping to replace both at the same time.

Quick question. If I order the primary and secondary parts shown, will that replace both lines from the brake booster?
