pesky brake lines from master cylinder
hi folks
well, covid has not been kind to our bus.
Found 3 pin holes in various brake lines. Most importantly, in the 2 brake lines coming from the master cylinder, going to the frame rail. Tried a few International dealers with little success, Midwest Bus Parts is not returning my emails.
Anybody here can supply part numbers for these lines, or have a source that can supply these two lines?
these have a section of flex line in between, right now we have temporary lines with a pig tail loop.
When we took it out for a long trip, clearly, at least one of the front wheels lost the balancing weights. As they are over 10 yrs old, we probably will replace them, any recommendations?, currently 10r22.5.
the bus is a bluebird, 1998, on a 3800(?) international chassis, dt466e engine.

I simply bent my own brake line. Put 3 or 4 loops in the line to accommodate the flex between the chassis and the body.

I'd suggest solid line with 3-4 large loops for flex as well. If you have a vin I can try and look it up for you, no guarantees though with how old it is.
As far as tires are concerned, I'd get whatever was cheapest, as you won't likely wear them out from mileage. Wouldn't worry about balance either, just throw in the appropriate amount of balance beads and be done.

Get some 1/4" copper nickel line (should be the factory size) and put some coils in the line. Clean up and re-use the old fittings.
Be SURE to check the rest of the lines. Mine looked good until I went to replace them. I replaced everything in 1 shot. Some of them were paper thin but not rusted on the outside.

Yeah, we put loops in too. We did replace about 90% of the brake lines and hoses about 5 years ago, The ones leaking were of course the ones not replaced.
i do worry about vibration in long unsupported lines.
BTW, the brake lines look like the ones I have on my still

got brakes on the still so it doesn't run away, or appear to run away, depending on the shine quality.

rv8flyboy: the ones at that Rockauto link I posted are affordable options for the rubber part, if you don't want to coil solid line. Roughly $20 each. I bought a rubber flex line for each caliper since I couldn't get enough loops in the solid line to properly flex while cornering ;)

Those rubber lines only have a 1/8" ID. The oem lines are 1/4". Not sure if it would cause an issue so we went with coiled hard line at the master.
As for the lines being long, just support them and they'll be fine. We've since added some extra support tabs near the bottom of the loops.

Are they? I can't find any information stating the rubber hose ID for any of the items. Just the fitting size. At any rate, they work as well as OEM from my limited experience. The also look identical from the exterior

The lines at the wheels are 1/8" from the factory too so no problem there.. but the main supply lines at the master are larger.
I just replaced all the rubber lines and hard lines on our bus. The lines at the corners were all 1/8" ID but the supply lines were 1/4"

Just like to say thanks for posting the part numbers for these brake lines. Sure made ordering replacements a LOT easier. Mine were original to the bus, (manufactured in 1995) when we removed them they almost disintegrated.
I have had difficulty in obtaining diagrams with part numbers. Most dealers seem very reluctant to give out part numbers, and I guess I would do the same thing in their shoes.

They're reluctant to give it out because selling parts is their business. Most brick and mortar stores can't compete with online, so if you take the numbers and go elsewhere they didn't make money. If they don't make money, the parts guy doesn't get paid.
Don't get me wrong, some of the stuff has exorbitant mark ups, and I get everyone wants to save money.
