Question Where/How to install air chuck on air brake tanks

Hey all,

I'm wanting to install an air chuck on my air tanks so I can fill up my tires when traveling without having to get to a truck stop first.

I have what appears to be two tanks. I believe the large one is my primary tank and the smaller one is my secondary tank. I also have a few inlets on them, and I'm not sure the best location to install the chuck.

Additionally, since I've never done this before, what parts/tools will I need to do this? Anything I should be careful about along the way?

Video here showing my tanks and different inlets.

Thanks! That was really helpful!

I do not have air ride or an air seat or anything like that. As far as I know, I just have air brakes. So I can't trace back from an accessory in order to find the protected tank. Is the protection device he used at the end all I need?

I think so. Once past that protection valve-- you can safely do what you want.

yep porchdog has it right.. once past the protection valve you can set up any accessory you want.. if you never had anything but the brakes you can install a protection valve on the 3rd tank// or if its a combined single tankl with 3 chambers you can install a protection valve on an open port of the last tank

Hi Beeb, yes...as PD and CK said, once you are downstream of a pressure protection valve you can safely add accessories knowing that a leak in that portion of the system won't drop your braking system pressure below about 60 psi (commonly). The pressure protection valve I showed in that video is a pretty inexpensive and easy-to-find part. Thanks for thinking this through! Lots of folks don't consider the safety aspects...so, kudos to you.

And, PD, thanks for sharing the video!

Look at the drain valves on your tanks - chances are one is actual a dual-tank. So one of the three could be your "wet tank" and the other two primary/secondary.

This is a good idea. I may add a porthole from one of my tanks at the end to the outside of the bus on both sides, so I can hook up some pneumatic air tools straight to outside wall of the bus. Might even be good to do before I do the roof raise and just use the air hammer chisel for the rivet removal

Bus powered roof raise!
