And the fun begins. Hello from KS

Yello from KS,

The wife and I have been lurkers on the forums for about 6 months now for myself and I'm sure she's stumbled in and out of here a few times as well. We have recently purchased a 2000 Thomas Saf-T MVP coach bus. It served its previous life traveling young adults to and from sporting events and musical activities.

We have plans to make it our permanent home for the foreseeable future. Wife's career path has the options for travel work so we hope to be able to use it to jump around and see new parts of the country for dirt cheap. Plus also have the ability to take it and boondock for fun getaways. We wont be towing a "Toad" as I've heard them called but with 3 dogs that enjoy events as well, we will have a secondary vehicle for follow travel.

We are both ambitious in building our bus as much on our own as we can, but with this kind of resource at your fingertips you cant help but dabble in the fun.

Hope to see y'all around.

Looks like a nice one. Hope it's mechanically sound and fairly rust free...

Thanks. So far so good on the rust, small surface stuff but I haven't gotten into the meat of the undercoating. I have the fun of getting to try the "home remedies" of getting that "tar" undercoating off. Also not opposed to ever changing the powerplant. The 5.9's like any other motor has their ups and downs. None of them are perfect but the starting point and price point were better than a more mechanically sound buses we looked at.

I've actually wondered if it might be possible to upgrade from a 5.9 to an 8.3.

That depends mostly on how much work you'd want to put into it. Everything is possible if you have the patience and the knowledge to do so. You can pick a motor and trans up pretty easily if you look around. Look in odd ball places. The good overall motors are used in many applications.
