Day 1 logistics

I am gearing up to buy a school bus in Oregon that I will be driving down to California and then converting to an RV.
I need to know what legal registration & insurance type hoops I need to jump through in order to drive it down there legally.
I have a class A CDL.
Where do I even look for this kind of info?

Ahhhhh... excuse me, but you are aware of the pollution standards in Cali? If you're going to register that bus in Cali, you need a bus that is specd to Cali standards, which Oregon buses are not.
It's possible you know more about that than an Oregonian, but I know the standards are tough and as far a diesel engines it needs to be factory specd for Cali air pollution standards.

If you get it retitled as an RV/motorhome the new standards don't apply, C.A.R.B specifically states RV/Motorhomes are exempt from them.

That sounds very simple. A lot of the stuff they sell must be removed from the state.

I was titled as an RV this would currently be a chicken coop on new tires. I'd be dead in the water as uninsurable. Because this was re-titled as a van I was able to get the progressive commercial policy here in Oregon. A modified bus or self conversion would not qualify according to what they said.
It seems very convaluded and confusing concerning insurance. This is one of those things that you apparently can't do online now.
