Georgia born, anywhere bound

Hi! My name is Nate, I bought my bus (1992 Genesis Amtran or International 3900FC) in September. I’ve been working on it blindly until I remembered I joined this forum months ago. Im about to raise the roof so I can fit (I’m 6’4). I can’t decide between 12-18 inches. Any insight would be much appreciated! Click image for larger version

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the bus purchase.

Given that I regularly wack my head on the ceiling of my bus I SHOULD do a roof raise. I've thought a lot about it and I concluded that, were I to do a roof raise, I'd only raise it enough to KEEP from wacking my head. Why? It's what I THINK I'd like to do with my bus. I want to get off the beaten path and away from the main population corridors. That often means smaller roads and, potentially, lower overpasses. If you want to spend your time traveling the interstates and staying at RV parks close to the interstates then the sky's the limit, or at least whatever the limit is on the interstate overpasses.

What is the height of your roof now? Whatever it is add 18" to it and see where that puts you relative to the overpasses you think you might run into (figuratively speaking of course). I guess you also need to figure out what you might put ON the roof, a deck, solar panels, a 1 room schoolhouse?

To save some cutting fees I ordered sheet metal sheared in half (24") which on this bus figures to be a 11.5" raise.

After flooring and roof insulation I will have ~3.5" head room (I'm 6'4). Wanted to raise it the minimum to avoid trees, wires... bridges.
