Unhappy Getting the Bus Home

Hello, I am currently in the process of planning and saving to convert a school bus for two friends and myself to live in fulltime post college. I live in Pennsylvania and I'm wondering how to get the bus home. I have found very few sellers who would deliver and you seem to need to have a CDL in order to drive it home. I do not have one but the state requires that you test in the vehicle you want to be certified for. I can't drive it home until I have the license, but I can't get the license without the bus. Help!

Depends what your state requires. It is somewhat of a gray area on licensing, but most states don't require a CDL for operating a bus conversion to RV or Motor Home.

As far as driving it home from wherever you buy it, get it insured prior to your trip.
If possible get a temp tag as well.
That way you'll likely be covered legally if you were to get stopped in transit.

If you can't get temp tag in advance, you'll need to find out how to get one wherever it is.
Just Do It...

Welcome,

Many of us bend the rules a bit to get the bus home. The consensus is that yellow school buses being driven reasonably are somewhat invisible.

I have carried proof of insurance, temporary tag and purchase documents with me on the three that I have brought home. Drive the speed limit, make sure all of your lights work properly and use them as intended.

When you get it home, look into the regulations in your state for converting it to an RV. Most states exempt RV's from CDL requirements unless you are using the RV for business.

I have done as little to the bus as possible and get it titled and registered as an RV immediately. Rules do vary significantly from state to state. Definitely check your states rules yourself.

Good luck with your quest.

Drive responsibly, have no worries from LEO. I just drove 2800 miles last week at 65mph, no reason to be bothered by LEO.
