Greetings from NC (newbie in the RTP area )

Hello All -

Diving in to say hello. So grateful for this resource and community - been rooting around the site for a while now! Invaluable-holistic insights in the many posts on the platform. For me, owning a skoolie (planning for fulltime travel over the next 2 years) has been a relentless, all-consuming pursuit for the past 2 years.
Last July, amidst COVID surreal-ness, I got "#27" from our local county public school bus depot. Life being life soon afterwards, circumstances led to going from having a $5k budget to $0 for the conversion. Isn't that just the way LOL. But those relentless thoughts of skoolie-life persisted and have led to innovative, creative, inventive ideas/ways for undertaking my conversion. Many thanks to Skoolie.net, YouTube university, upcycling existing furniture, network of nomadic spirits, big box stores plus DIY souls everywhere!!! I am waiting for warm-ish weather to resume demo tasks. Cheers all for your guidance and sharing experiences, knowledge, expertise, insights - very much appreciated! I am learning about heavy duty diesel engines, mechanical parts, solar install, boondocking, minimalism, waste management, building materials.

Current state: 80% excited; 20% "what in the world am I getting into?"

Looking forward to participating on the platform.

Gearing up to use an angle grinder for the 1st time (22 seats = 66 bolt-screw thingies) - holy cow!!!!!!!

ps. Still learning my way around the Skoolie.net platform... Shout-out to NC-based skoolie folks, are there any other newbies out there? Anyone close to the RTP/Triangle area?

my second bus came from wake forest.

Hello and welcome to the madness.
Your 80%/20% split is just about right, keep it there and you'll do just fine.
Keep a fire extinguisher and a water bucket/damp rag close by at all times when you fire up that grinder, you might just need it.(some of us can say that from experience).

Hiya Jolly Roger. WF was my old stomping ground back in the day (it has changed a lot :>). I got #27 from Wake County. Travel plans will see me at the beach - OBX, Plymouth, Cedar Island...). Do you still have your 2nd bus? Did you get it from the school district/dealer?

no it came from a private seller that was a member on here
