Hello All,
I have the opportunity to buy a 1966 Gillig with a Cat engine. The seller is asking 7K but they are flexible. What is a good price for this bus?

When they bought it some conversion work had already been done. The seats have been removed. There is a fabric similar to carpet on the entire ceiling. It's actually not bad. The door has been welded into one piece and it has a deadbolt lock of the home use style.

They say the engine comes from a Cat loader. It's a huge V8. The thing runs well. The tranny is auto. The tires are good.

I would have to install all of the water tanks, propane, and the other things that it needs the extra push to get it to RV status, fridge, stove, toilet.

What do you think? I know these folks we've been friends for years and when I approached them about buying they were excited to see someone they know interested.

My background. I have built V8s, V6s and 4 bangers. I can weld and fabricate metal pretty good. I have a nice place to work on this thing.

If it runs, and the undercarriage is solid, I'd be all over it like stink on sh1t!

In my opinion a partial conversion lowers the value to some extent. Its not far enough along to say "its saving me a ton of work" but in some ways I'm sure is going to handcuff you to courses of direction you may not have chosen for yourself.

in its favor a Gillig is a somewhat unique and desirable bus but on the other hand converting a more unique bus opens a few cans of worms in the since that you will inevitably hit roadblocks and have a smaller community of wisdom on how to navigate past the issue. Most parts should still be pretty standard however.

If they weren't friends of mine Id leverage the negatives for and start potentially at $3500 (depending on my own inspection of course) (if there are mechanical issues or rust issues id go under that for sure) and work to common ground from there.
