Quite excited about the possibilities of a Skoolie.

After some research I'm mildly concerned with the 8.2 Detroit diesel motor, if it's going to be a problem to work on it that would be a huge issue, and if it's under powered that's also a big negative as we'll be driving on longer trips in the bus, meaning a lot of highway (not often, probably twice a year 1000miles).
The fact that's it's already registered here in California as an RV is hugely convenient as I'm seeing that's a huge hassle with the DMV.
Is this a good bus to look at, provided it's running strong, or for the money should I be looking for something all together different?
