Hello from Montreal

Hey im Jean!

Me and my gf are on the planning steps of converting a bus to live full-time "off-grid" style.

We're going to be snowbirds! We'll work home in the summer and **** off in the winter. Plus since we're not sure if we'll be able to hookup water and power when we're home, we'll be putting quite a bit of mileage on that skoolie.

What's the longest your skoolie has lasted? (full-time living)

And when the engine goes or the overall state of the bus is too low to just maintain... what do/did you do?? Just changed the engine and kept on going? Completely rebuilt another one?

Hey Jean, I just saw your post. Have you finally converted your bus? Did you do that here in Montreal?

You haven't even gotten your bus and you're already wanting to know what to do with it if it wears out. Okay, I'll go with that.

To forecast your options, here are the scenarios you are most likely to come up against.

A) Your relationship ends and you sell the bus and split the money before the bus wears out.

B) Your relationship flourishes and you wear the bus out, but you're tired of living in a bus. Park it on your property and rent it out, use it as a guest house, have some kids and let them play in it.

C) You're still digging the skoolie life but the bus isn't....bummer. Has the bus been good to you? Is the cost of the repair more than converting another bus? Do you have the money for replacing the engine, transmission or some other major part of the buses basic operation? Who knows, you're not there yet.

D) Don't worry, be happy. Buy the bus first. Convert it second. Live in it third. By then, many of your questions and concerns will be answered.

Best of luck.
