Hi from the Netherlands

Hi overseas skoolie-lovers,

My name is Stefan, 44 years and hit by your overseas skoolie-virus. I live in this small country on the other side of the ocean called the Netherlands where most people indeed cycle and live in brick houses. And although I'm a building engineer, I would rather live in a nice bus and be a free man than in a big brick house with lots of money to pay. well.....I've visited the US and Canada several times and have fallen in love with your schoolbuses. There special and mindblowing and not many around here. So it is a bit pioneering, which I like. I'm well aware of all the information that can be found at this forum, and I will go through it, but I still have a first question to ask:

Is there anyone on this forum that has taken a schoolbus overseas to Europe or knows the drill? I really would like to get in touch to find out what's the best way to find a bus and get it in Europe.

and "hartelijk bedankt" (dutch)

We'll keep in touch
Stefan

Warning! Warning! Warning! My hoeks are flailing wildly Will Robinson!

Welcome to the madness, but be warned:

Purchasing a former school bus for motor home conversion may result with your head firmly lodged in your nether regions...

Thanks! It is a nice country with nice people, but to small for me once in a while. Too many regulations for living/building etc. especially when you want to live in a schoolbus So, that's why I'm pretty jealous at you Americans with all your space and beautiful scenery. Much easier to travel around with a bus. I probably would have lived in a skoolie already for a long time if I lived in the States or Canada. I've been a couple of times in both countries and enjoyed it so much. I hope to find some useful information to help to fulfill my dream...

I hope you did not mind my joke! I am not sure if the pun might not have gotten lost in translation.
I hope that you will find a way to realize your dream! I am confident that there are Recreational Vehicles/Motor Homes about. What do people there do with them there, especially when not on the road?
Do not limit yourself only to school busses. You might be able to find a bus nearer to you that was used in public transportation for sale. While they are not built as indestructibly as skoolies, that is still a good option for you.
The owner would have kept up on all the maintenance, and should be able to provide you with the records.
I can only imagine how expensive it would be to ship a bus over! Any parts needed for repairs will probably be difficult to locate locally, as well.

I don't know if he's a member here, but there's a guy in Germany who converted an articulated bus. He has the unique problem of what to put in the flexible section.
