Im back! Ready to buy short bus now.

Hi everyone. I am ready to buy my first bus. I started learning about the engines, makes, models last year. Now I am ready and want one tomorrow! Haha.
I like the 4 window ones, but lots of 5s for sale with wheelchair lift.
I like the lift in a way.
Use it to move heavy things.
Makes a great go go booth and stage.
Any help you can offer in the purchasing is greatly appreciated.
I am not a mechanic.
I can do carpentry, elec, sewing.
So a bus not too beaten up with not too many miles is probably best even though I think old ones are cool. 1947 Flxible Clipper Antique Bus 9065 - Antique Buses - Buses for Sale

Welcome !

I'm excited for you ! "The hunt" is an exciting phase of the build.

Be patient, kick tires- it's time for the schools to be letting buses go to pasture soon.

Have a spot to park.

Chair lift is dilemma.

Good:
  • Lift heavy things into bus
  • Big door for big stuff that can't fit in front door
  • Motorcycle lift sorta
  • Outdoor patio

Bad:
  • Takes up a ton of space
  • Big, drafty, leaky door
  • Heavy (cuts into payload)
  • Seals can be $$ spendy

I'm actually surprised at how little space some of those lifts take. The one on ECCB's bus wouldn't be in m way at all.

For someone who is a self proclaimed "not a mechanic" I wouldn't be suggesting an antique bus though!

The lifts are cool, but they rattle and clank around a lot. I've tried straps, pool noodles, everything.
Handy, but annoying.

Obviously the solution is to start losing your hearing, problem solved! But yeah I'd be obsessively looking for the sources of rattles and trying to solve them.

One thing that drives me crazy would be rattling stuff on vehicles. My cargo van full of tools- I even have that one nearly rattle free. My bus' dash is obviously gonna need a lot of work to end the rattling and shaking, but its still quieter than my Subaru Crosstrek's dash. Subaru's rattle like a mofo!!!

Thanks for the input. If it has a lift and gets in the way or annoying, is taking them out hard?
Thinking gas maybe, not diesel.

Is it really the time of year for the school districts to get rid of them?

I'm at the RTR, saw a lot of busses. Gas diesel, bug small. The tea man is here, a steempunk bus of some sorts. Didn't see the inside yet. Also great step vans too. Even a little one 4 cyl!
