In the planning stage

Hey all! Excited to be here and introduce.

Have been tossing this idea around since first reading about some Notre Dame students doing it back in 2015.

Have been digital nomading out of a backpack the past couple years, and the idea of having adventure while having my moving home/office base is a dream.

Have worked on old cars, have helped build homes, going to combine them now. Watching auction sites daily. Keeping my eye out for medium length, flat-front buses, not going to be hasty until I see something right for me.

Looking forward to sharing the story as I build, and a pre-emptive thank you for the resources here!

Welcome! And good for you, not being in a rush. The right bus for you is out there somewhere.

I'm glad you found skoolie.net too. The FB skoolie groups are fun for photos, but some of those are fun because they're cute and some of those are fun for the absurdity. You're much more likely to get honest, practical advice from experience here. Sometimes, that honesty might dissuade you from a path or plan...but it's always meant in the spirit of helping make your build better.

do your due diligence and research the engines and transmissions for the good and the bad ones out there in the year model and style of buses you are looking at.
powertrain should be the biggest deciding factor as well as maintenance records if available.
you can look up the VIN and find what a specific candidate came from the factory with.

Welcome from me too. I just want to add to the conversation, you should wait for the bus you really want. Lots of buses for sale these days all over the map. I almost went for something that was half the price of what I wanted, but it was not what I wanted, so I spent double and got what I wanted.
I only promise advice to help against buyers regret, I don't know anything about good financial decisions.

If I was making a "good financial decision" I probably wouldn't be doing this.
But, it's therapeutic too. So justifies it....some.
