HELLO SKOOLIE COMMUNITY!
My name is Kim and lately I have have been BINGE watching Skoolie videos for inspiration and encouragement. I just recently acquired a 2000 Chevy Express 3500 Cutaway Bus with only 35k miles... so #WINNING.
I know the previous owners and this bus was BARELY used which is why they sold it. I excited to start my conversion journey. In a world that is RAPIDLY falling apart, I decided to make this my new happy place. My plan is to keep me busy and focused on something positive while enjoying the OUTSIDE. I refused to be locked down anywhere.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
I have a degree in Architectural Design and consider myself to be handy with tools. While I don't think I'm anyone's expert, I'm not afraid get my hands dirty and try. For me, creating and building are very therapeutic.... it's my happy place. I'm an extroverted introvert and building out a skoolie and traveling seems like a hand in glove fit. I'm a home body by nature so building a tiny home that I can move around with me as I solo travel to see beautiful, breath-taking views speaks to my SOUL. Ah! I'm so excited.
WHAT I'VE DONE SO FAR:
I have recently removed all the seats, wheelchair lift and interior panels. And let me tell you that was interesting trying to figure out how to get the lift through the door but I did it. I've also saw how many people were dreaded removing rivets, which had me a little nervous but I have two words for you AIR HAMMER. I used the attachments popped the center and chiseled the rivets right off. ..that thing worked like a DREAM. I removed all my side panels in less than 1 hour.
WHAT I'M DOING NEXT:
I'm thinking that my next goal should be to do a ROOF RAISE. I have a design in mind and raising my roof 8-10" would be perfect, if possible. Does anyone have any referrals I could look into?
As far as the interior I have decided to keep the original ceilings. Functionally it's really easy to clean and the magnetic surface seems is really useful. Aesthetically, there's something about that shiny metal surface that speaks to me. I'm thinking with the right lighting I can bounce light to brighten the space. Although, I'm not really sure if all that means I still need to remove the ceiling panels or not. I just know there hasn't been any leaks and again the bus was barely used. Maybe so... hmmn [thinking]
I'm looking forward to learning and interacting with you guys and gals from this Skoolie Community. What better way to spend my time than with like-minded individuals. I'm open to any comments and/or suggestions that you may have thus far. Below is a link with a couple pictures of my bus, I think I'll name her: Manifest.
