Just Bought a 2007 Short School Bus-California

Progressing rom long time "wisher" to current "Doer". About to take delivery of a 5 Window 2007 Chevy Express 3500. Only 16K miles and has been used to transport 12 kids. All service records, No Rust, newer tires and checks out great. It is currently registered as Commercial and I'm a bit intimidated to navigate the whole register and insure as an RV thing. Any tips from Californians out there on this one?

I have never seen the 8.1 Vortec in a cutaway Express bus chassis. I believe those were only offered in the C5500/6500 chassis which was mostly sold to coach builders such as Glaval and Goshen.

Every Express cutaway school bus I have seen had either the 6.6l Duramax or the smaller 6.0 Vortec.

I’m sorry. I am mistaken. It was a 6.0 vortec in those that I saw. My apologies. It was a big weekend with lots of sun and beer

OK. The GVWR sticker says it all. Is it less than 14,001 GVWR? If it is, go get it smogged then go to the DMV and register it. The body type on the title may still be SB. They changed ownership on mine without changing the body type. As a result, I’ve been paying $20 a year in registration fees (don’t tell them)!

National General may offer you insurance while converting like they did for me

Convert, go to a VIN Verifier with the bus, change title to RV
