Maryland newbie

Hi, my wife and I have been thinking about converting a school bus for a while. We did a few cross country trips in our Toyota Sienna and camped and used airbnb last year. We want a skoolie for our future road trips. We found a 4 window Chevy G30 with 80k miles. I plan to go next week to check it out. Any tips or suggestions on what to check for?

Any Maryland specific registration/insurance info will be helpful as well.

Rust. See what engine is in it. Mileage. Of course I have a 5.7 chevy with around 240k on it in a loaded work van. Is it dual rear tire or single? (Dual is a little better stability) Depending on the price you may wanna check tires and brakes. If the price is cheap I wouldn't expect much on those.

Welcome to the site.

As mentioned, rust. Then a good drivetrain inspection.
If it was maintained as it should have been, 80K is relatively low mileage for that bus.

As is with all significant purchases it is always buyer beware. If you don't know what to look and listen for on your inspection of the bus, try to find someone who knows what to look for before laying out any $$$ on something that you can't fix.

A 4 window is small inside for two. Hopefully you are good at being close for long periods of time!

Good luck, and post pics if you go forward with the bus...

Avoid flat bottoms

I purchased a short bus at auction. I didn't realize it had a flat floor- so the head room is lower than it would be with the standard wheel-well floor.
