That is the world famous 6.2 diesel. If turbo it is the equally famous 6.5 diesel. When you look up parts to repair the speedometer they refer you to a small stick on calendar

Well if it is a 6.2 non turbo they are not fast. So I used a calendar. Look for a label under the hood on the radiator support giving emission data. Also look in the glove box there may be a label there too. It will list the options from the factory. I had a 1985 chevy 6.2 I bought new. It was slow but steady and I never had to be towed home. A few times I could not leave home but..

The 6.5 non turbo is a re-do of the 6.2. As to the parts availability I would not be to concerned. This engine was used in military Humvee trucks for years. Both as a NA and turbo versions. As to the mileage they are good for, it is dependent on prior maintenance and operation. So that will be a crap shoot. If you have a local mechanic that is knowledgeable on those engines pay him to look at it and advise you on condition. It may be the best money you ever spent. If only we could do that before marriage...
